Gimmik - Cloudwalker

Gimmik makes a solid comeback to the IDM scene through the label n5md with his album Cloudwalker. Martin Haidinger’s latest work is reminiscent to his earlier Toytronik releases, with lush harmonies and intricate glitches .

Starting off with “Short Wave Memories” you are immediately transported back to the sound of earls 00’s Gimmik, a sparkling melodic track puctuated by crisp and clear electronic drums, when you start to get comfortable a bouncy bass melody jumps in that shifts along with gliding soft pads. The next track “Propylenglycol” continues on with the high energy and electro basslines.

Next up “Patching Shadows” is pure ambient, slow building synths of dark emotional tones. “Carter’s Final Transmission” starts with detuned synths with a nostalgic mood, the structure of the song builds layer by layer, adding texture as it goes. “In My Family” follows on with a more upbeat melody while “Decay of a Ballblazer” leans more downbeat. “Voltage Controlled Organisms” starts with a thunderous boom and follows on with intricate glitches, blips and bleeps, morphing along with the subtle soundscapes.
