Telefon Tel Aviv

About

About:

Telefon Tel Aviv is a New Orleans–derived, Chicago-based American electronic music act, formerly comprising Charles Cooper and Joshua Eustis. Since Cooper's accidental death in 2009, Telefon Tel Aviv has continued with Eustis as the sole official member. Eustis is also known for being a member of the most recent lineup of Puscifer and Nine Inch Nails' live performances.

At the turn of the millennium, American electronic music duo Telefon Tel Aviv released Fahrenheit Fair Enough, a robotically glitchy, ambient and well-paced collection of songs that many would count as their introduction to what became known as “intelligent dance music”. Considered a classic from the early 2000s Chicago scene, drawing on hard IDM, jazz, post-rock, house & techno.

After Cooper’s death in 2009, Eustis pursued other activities, like his solo alias Sons of Magdalene. But he returned in 2019 with Dreams Are Not Enough, which paired the broken rhythms of his side project Second Woman with TTA’s habitual yearning, yielding both melancholy synth-pop and bleak, witching-hour drone—and underscoring the remarkable consistency of this devastatingly expressive, restlessly experimental act.
