Art-TeK

About

About:

Art-Tek is a Moscow-Nuremberg-London based music label producing futuristic, avant-garde and perhaps mysterious experimental electronic music from ex-USSR since 1994. The label is full of classic 90’s era IDM goodness to explore.

It all began when a young electronic composer from Moscow released his tape album under the Solar X nickname. The idea of Art-Tek now was to create some ideological space for the new generation of artists that began to emerge in Russia.

At that time everybody were going crazy about techno, ambient and various electronica coming mostly from the West, where Art-Tek Records was not known with its tiny tape releases. But in 1997 the "X-rated" album by Solar X was re-released on CD and some small number of copies managed to get there. It quickly became a hype release among the fans of electronic rarities.

For several years ArT-TeK existed more as a virtual club for many new electronica artists appearing in the former Soviet Union, these artists played live on ArT-TeK parties in Moscow's clubs. In 1999 Yura Moorush, joined Roman (Solar X) to co-run the growing label. Their first release was the "Artefacts" compilation, which included 12 tracks from 12 artists from all over the x-USSR. In addition to Solar X, names like DJ Compass-Vrubel, Fizzarum, Novel23 and J-Toonz are definitely the headliners of the compilation.
